Second Skin is an ongoing curatorial inquiry into clothing, textile waste, and the cultures of care that emerge around material life. This project is positioned at the intersection of contemporary art, community engagement, and material research. The project asks a simple question: what happens to clothing after we stop wearing it?

 

Clothing is among the most intimate objects humans possess. It absorbs memory, labour, identity, aspiration, and emotion. At the same time, it is also one of the most rapidly discarded materials within contemporary systems of production and consumption.

 

This project wants to investigate this contradiction by following garments beyond the point of purchase and use. We don’t want to focus solely on waste as an environmental problem. More importantly, the project is interested in the people, practices, and knowledge systems that extend the life of materials through repair, reuse, adaptation, and circulation.
